Introducing the Welding Cobot Track System — Cover More Ground, Weld More Parts

One of the most common limitations shop owners encounter with fixed-base welding cobots is reach: the robot can't cover long seams or large weldments without being repositioned manually. The Camex Welding Cobot Track System solves this permanently.

How the Track System Works

The system mounts a cobot onto a servo-driven linear track — either floor-mounted or overhead-gantry style, with travel distances from 1.5 m to 6 m depending on the application. The 7th axis is fully integrated into the COBOT controller as an external axis, meaning all motion is programmed from the same teach pendant with no additional PLCs or motion controllers. The track uses precision ground rack-and-pinion drive for accurate, repeatable positioning along the full length of the weld. Positional repeatability is ±0.05 mm — tight enough for production welding on structural and precision assemblies alike.

Applications: Who Benefits Most

Structural steel fabricators welding long beam assemblies, trailer and truck body manufacturers covering large panel seams, and heavy equipment shops with multiple weld stations along a single fixture line are the primary beneficiaries. With a track system, one cobot can travel between two or three work stations, loading, welding, and repositioning automatically — multiplying throughput without adding a second robot. The system is also compatible with positioners and rotary tables, enabling coordinated motion between the track and the part for complex weld paths.

Installation & Integration

Camex handles the full mechanical and electrical integration, including track installation, cobot mounting, cable management, and program development. Most track system installations are completed in 3 to 5 days depending on the complexity of the cell. The system ships with a full application program for the customer's first part family, so production can start immediately after commissioning. As with all Camex solutions, ongoing support is available from our Laval and Mississauga service centres.

If your parts are too large for a fixed cobot or you're running multiple weld stations, the track system could significantly increase your return on investment. Contact us for a free application assessment.
